Serrato

Serrato

“Serrato has borrowed and incorporated an undiluted sense of composition, color, and passion from his ancestral heritage and his numerous travels throughout Mexico and Central America.”
As a native to the Southwest, Serrato has developed a unique affinity with the vast forms, distant vistas, and glowing canyons of this region. His interpretation of the landmass is uniquely abstract yet lends a certain sense of reality. His colors, ranging from sensitive pastels to powerful primaries, refer to the textures of the earth, multiple horizons, and masses of gentle air, clusters of flora and hints of water. Serrato enjoys surface embellishment. His added surface treatment to his prints and printings will range from applying paint to build up additional textures; drawing or adding calligraphic marks using a wide range of materials or perhaps incorporating metal foils.

Serrato has borrowed and incorporated an undiluted sense of composition, color, and passion from his ancestral heritage and his numerous travels throughout Mexico and Central America.

Serrato earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in printmaking from Arizona State University in 1974 when he was twenty-four. His overall formal education is a compilation of studies in art education, primary education, foreign language, philosophy, and studio art.

The last eighteen years have been a time, while absorbed in interests of travel, teaching, art, other 3-dimansionall media, of incessant creative drive, and development. Through many unseen canvases and prints, he has arrived at a newly evolving yet definitive stage of his art career.

Working in the privacy of his own reclusive painting and printing facility, Serrato has produced work over the last ten years that has been recognized in local, regional, and international competitions. This list of his patrons is comprised both of private and corporate, foreign and domestic collectors.
