Kay James

Kay James was born in Seoul, Korea 1977, she moved to Los Angeles, California when she was 11 years old with her family.

Growing up drawing and painting were always a big part of her childhood and it came naturally introduced by her artistic mother who was a talented seamstress and a self-taught artist.

At a young age Kay James spent her time learning at art classes and have joyful memories of creating art. While attending in an art school in Seoul, Korea, she learned more in still life, traditional landscapes, and figure drawings. In her middle, high school years in California she decided to pursuit her career in art and studied Fine art/ Illustration at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California and graduated with honor in year 2000 with the bachelor’s degree.

Working as an editorial illustrator for various magazines, publishing and record companies, her work was featured in the Art directors annual no.80 for her client, Warner Brothers records as well as showing her works in different galleries in Los Angeles.

In 2012 she relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, began working as a Production artist/ Designer at an art production company/ art gallery until early 2018. By working with many talented artists and art directors, she learned more advanced techniques and business knowledges while developing her own style in fine art paintings.

As an independent artist, Kay James spend every day in her studio working on paintings that focus on movements and interesting layers of paints and textures mostly with acrylic paints and ink on canvases and papers. The subject matters she enjoys the most are florals, abstract, transitional, and landscapes but not limited to. Textile design, fashion, and interior design are her interests in learning more in the future and inspiration for her art. Now Kay James lives in Goodyear, Arizona with her husband, two sons and her dog, Kalli.
